Righteous Felon’s Storm King Jerky

Chewy, smokey, and deliciously meaty.

Pickled eggs are a bar snack of days past. There may be a few “dive” establishments that still offer up this most unappealing of bar snacks, but most bars have moved on and ramped-up their pre-made offerings. One such offering is the classic beef jerky. Whether it is served out of large jars behind the bar or in individual packages, jerky has made its resurgence behind bars and beer shops alike.

Considering how well they pair, it’s a logical move to stock quality beef jerky next to great beer, which only leads to the next rational step of using great beer to make an even better beef jerky. And that is the exact step that local jerky purveyors Righteous Felon Jerky Cartel took. Teaming up with Downingtown’s Victory Brewing Company, Righteous Felon released Victorious B.I.G. Marinated in Victory Storm King Imperial Stout, Victorious B.I.G. is a combination of sweet, savory and peppery, and the perfect pairing for a pint of Storm King.

Started as a home project among middle school friends, Righteous Felon became a reality years later in December of 2012. Finding the jerky selection at specialty food markets to be dominated by “serious” brands, Righteous Felon sought to lighten the mood of the jerky world, bringing a more satirical approach to dried meat, while also seeking to add a more full-flavored, homemade-tasting product to the market. The “having-fun” approach is quickly apparent by the play on famous revolutionaries’ names of their jerkies. The names include “Habanero Escobar,” “Che-Potle Guevara,” and “O.G. Hickory,” to go along with the newest addition of Victorious B.I.G. Fitting for a craft beer market, they are a jerky purveyor that just wants to enjoy their craft and run a passion project.

On top of loving jerky, Righteous Felon Jerky Cartel also happens to love Victory Storm King. From when they turned twenty-one and initially discovered it, they started decorating their dorm room with empty cases. As fate would have it, they ended up sampling their product at one of the Foodery locations alongside a Victory sampling, and the conversation got started. Twenty-five different test batches later, Victorious B.I.G. was born and their middle school project and college obsession came together.

Righteous Felon jerky is available online (righteousfelon.com) and at specialty markets throughout the area.
