Anywhere you go in Philadelphia, you can’t escape Yards Brewery. They’re on TV during the local games, on the side of SEPTA busses, on billboards and in most any bar in the city. And now, they’re heading to the whiskey shelf as well.
Yards has teamed up with Philadelphia’s original craft distillery, Philadelphia Distilling, to make Tough Broad. This is no ordinary whiskey though. Instead of being distilled from a traditional whiskey wash, Tough Broad was distilled from a recipe loosely based off the Yards classic, Thomas Jefferson Tavern Ale. Once it was distilled, it was set to rest in a highly-charred 53-gallon barrel. The final product comes in at 90 proof and is the beer/whiskey hybrid you didn’t know you’ve been dreaming about.
As for the name, it’s simply a tribute to the great city of Philadelphia or as Yards puts it: “It’s a tribute to Philly’s underdog spirit, its history and character.”
Bottles of Tough Broad are available for pre-order now for $45. You can reserve your 375ml bottle by either e-mailing or calling Pete at Philadelphia Distilling: Call (215) 671-0346 x13 or email pete@philadelphiadistilling.
