On February 16th, a Wawa in Chadds Ford at 721 Naaman’s Creek Road became the first branch in Pennsylvania to offer beer. The event was marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony which featured speeches from from Wawa’s President and CEO Chris Gheysens and other local representatives as well as a beer tasting event featuring local brewers 2SP, Victory, Yuengling, and Dogfish Head.
These local brewers created a pairing menu, matching their beers with Wawa deli favorites. Here are some selections from this list:
Victory HopDevil IPA – pairs well with a classic Wawa Italian hoagie.
Dogfish Head Beer To Drink Music To ‘17 – pairs well with an applewood smoked bacon mac and cheese bowl.
2SP Delco Lager – pairs well with a soft pretzel.
In addition to the beers mentioned, the store will also be carrying selections from Ballast Point, Avery, Southern Tier, Bell’s, New Belgium, Founders, Stone, and many more. Beer is available in six packs, 12 packs, 15 packs, and a wide assortment of single bottles.
“This is a big day for us,” said Lori Bruce, a public relations manager for Wawa. She called the beer selection, “a great nod to local and craft beer culture.”
Although the location is open 24 hours, beer will only be sold from 8 am to 11 pm and the area in which beer is sold will be kept separate from the rest of the store.
